Everyone was waiting for the other shoe, or is that battery, to drop. And it has. Apple has announced that it is recalling nearly 2 million ibook and Powerbook batteries manufactured by Sony.
Here is a quick breakdown of the affected machines:
12-inch iBook G4 with battery model number A1061 and battery serial numbers:

6C510 through 6C626
12-inch PowerBook G4 with battery model number A1079 and battery serial numbers:

3K428 through 3K611
15-inch PowerBook G4 with battery model numbers A1078 and A1148 and battery serial numbers:
3K425 through 3K601
6N530 through 6N551

No other Apple notebooks are involved in this recall. You can find all this information over at spymac along with other information from the usual online news outlets like Yahoo! and others.
It will remain to be seen if Apple takes as bad a beating in public as Dell has over this battery recall. Both companies have their detractors and so far the company not severely criticized is Sony. Maybe this hit will bring the critics out along with details on the financial hit the bottery manufacture is taking on replacing all these defective units.
