On October 23rd Sony put a Battery Replacement alert page on their website. Apparently some of their own batteries are susceptible to overheating and possible fire in the same manner that Dell and Apple notebooks have been.

Sony joins Dell, Apple, and Toshiba in recalling batteries for their notebook computers. The affected companies are now weighing the options of going to court over the expensive and image damaging recalls. With four global companies recalling thousands and thousands of batteries one can only wonder if Sony can absorb the astronomical litigation and compensatory costs of these possible lawsuits.
