Well, I got some response in the comment section but many more responses in email. I want to thank everyone for their opinions. In the end I finally wound up going here for my advice and final decision on which console to purchase.

I got a used XBox with all the cables, one controller, and 3 games for $150.00 from a bam GameStop. Also dropped the extra 10 bucks and got the 1 year replacement warranty. Nice deal, for 10 bucks if the machine is destroyed they swap it for another used one. With an 8 year old and a 4 year old (and me) I don’t think the machine will last one year. So the $10 is worth it.

So now I have been reading up on Xbox and have a couple of good Xbox blogs to pass along:
