SingleMalt.TV

Ok, I did something I usually do not do. After I posted my McClelland Lowland’s review I was looking at what Google Ads were being offered with the article and one caught my eye. So I noted the url and surfed to it. I am definitely subscribing to this web television channel.

Singlemalt TV is targeted broadcasting for sure, but it is so expertly done and so finely polished that I was very surprised at the content offered for free as well as the extensive library of premium programs devoted to our favorite beverage, scotch. And on my connection (I have gigabit to the desktop) I am streaming over 1500 Kbps and in full screen mode I am watching a webcast in better resolution than my television at home.

The brainchild of Rob Draper and hosted by Charles MacLean, singlemalt.tv is a great look at what the internet and broadcast television can become. Give it a try while the introductory subscription price of $39.95 is still in effect. In April the price rises to $49.95.

McClelland’s Lowland Single Malt Scotch is usually found on the bottom shelf of the Wine and Spirits stores that I frequent. But I really don’t think it quite belongs there. It is a budget priced scotch, usually going for $20 for a 750 ml bottle. But don’t let its shelf placement and inexpensive price lead you to think this is an inferior scotch. It is very good for what it is, a single malt scotch for someone not used to single malts.

McClelland's Lowland ScotchSince I am very familiar with this scotch I will just briefly go through the diagnostics for you. It does not have an overpowering nose at all. If one could call the aroma from scotch “delicate” McClelland’s Lowland would be in that category. There is no attack at all, just a pleasant caramel and burnt oak that comes on easily and doesn’t offend, i.e. no nose burn.

McClelland’s Lowland is a lighter colored scotch, falling somewhere between chardonnay and sunlight. Since it is not listed on the bottle just how old the scotch is you can pretty much bet that it is quite young, probably only 3 years in the cask. That is ok. This scotch isn’t out to compete with MacAllan or Chivas. This scotch is an affordable plunge into the single malt scotch world.

The taste, let’s face it, is not what a much older (and bolder) single malt scotch will taste like. There is still the characteristic “whiskey bite” to the initial taste, but it is very subdued and almost creamy and fruity in flavor. This is not a scotch that needs to be sipped, you can dive right in and take a shot or two if you like. But it does bring to the table a lingering, pleasant aftertaste that is a hallmark of more premium scotches.

All in all, McClelland’s Lowland is my personal choice to have on hand for when the mood strikes for a dram of scotch. Eminently affordable, easy to drink, and easy to give as a gift, this single malt scotch may not be the King of Scotch, but it certainly is a worthy citizen of the kingdom.

Al Gore stood up to applause and accepted the little gold statue that is Oscar. His acceptance speech was given. Al Gore then walked off the stage. Just like everyone else who accepted an Oscar during the 79th Academy Awards telecast.

There is one difference. Al Gore does not get to KEEP the Oscar statue. He merely accepted it on behalf of the actual winner, Davis Guggenheim. The Best Documentary Award is not given to the star of the documentary or the actors involved but to the directors or producers.

Look who is HOLDING the award, the REAL winner

How is THAT for an inconvenient truth, Al? At an awards ceremony filled with fake lips, fake boobs, fake smiles, and fake lives, Al Gore one upped all the fakery by faking an Academy Award. Who is holding the award for the Academy media picture? Why that is the actual recipient, Davis.

Sorry Gruno, I am stealing your line but I have no where else to put these videos and nothing else to call them.

I debated on putting “Doctor and the Medics” on Coolthingstolookat.com because I love DM. But I am not sure if being Goth is a cool thing to be, but I certainly know it is a cool thing to look at (at least Wendi and Colette are).

Besides, I think their cover of “Spirit in the Sky” is better than the original. But, without further adieu here is Spirit in the Sky and below it their next biggest video (and more Wendi and Colette) Burn. Both are from their album “Laughing at the Pieces”

Remember 74 year old Kenneth Englund? He was charged with FELONY ASSAULT for chasing down a criminal stealing gasoline. Kenneth was armed with an unloaded shotgun. The charges were then reduced to misdemeanors. Still an outrage.

Finally this comes via AOL News, “Charges Dropped Against Vigilante Farmer.”

Vigilante? Since when is protecting your property “vigilantesim”? Are the hoplophobes on the left so fearful of a strong willed man that if he “dare protect his property with the mere threat of violence”, well then, he must be some sort of bloodthirsty vigilante out to kill anyone for any reason.

CAMBRIDGE, Minn. (AP) - Charges were dropped Tuesday against a retired farmer who earned widespread accolades for chasing down a gasoline thief while wielding a shotgun.

Kenneth Englund, 74, was initially charged with felony assault, though those charges were reduced to two misdemeanors - pointing a gun at another person and disorderly conduct.

Isanti County Attorney Jeffrey Edblad said Tuesday that his office no longer believes it can prove the case, the Star Tribune of Minneapolis reported.

Englund’s attorney, Brian Toder, had sought dismissal of the charges, saying his client was within his rights.

The retired farmer and his dog came upon Christian Harris Smith, 28, and a woman Oct. 15 near Englund’s place as Smith was taking gasoline from a vehicle. He then chased their vehicle, according to a criminal complaint.

Smith pleaded guilty this month and was sentenced to 90 days in jail. According to a transcript of an interview at a prison where Smith is serving time for an unrelated drug offense, Smith said Englund did not point a gun at him.

Englund said he is thankful for support from as far away as Canada, California, Ohio and Florida and is “very happy” with the outcome.

“I will still be a vigilant person,” he added. “But I’ll leave my dog and shotgun at home.”
Associated Press

Hooray for Mr. Englund for beating an obvious bad rap and a rousing Jeer for County Attorney Jeff Edblad for even considering to try Mr. Englund on ANY charges. What every government sycophant needs to realize is that we, as Americans, do not take the law into our own hands, we ARE the law.

However, Mr. Englund, you keep on toting your shotgun, everyone who sent you well wishes and prayed for you has your back.
