Why is the Left so angry? Especially the “anti-war” Left? Didn’t their ideological side win this past mid term election cycle? The Congress has slipped ever so slightly to Democrat control. The “poll numbers” on the Bush Administration are routinely so low major media outlets no longer regularly report them. Very large portions of the American public have a neutral or negative view of the War on Terror. Everything is going swimmingly for the Left.
So why is such vehement and nasty anger and rhetoric still coming from the Left? What remains on their TO-DO list that hasn’t already been done or at least is well on the way of being crossed off the list? On the surface everything is coming up roses for the Left and the Democratic Politicians in control. But.
How many “anti-war” songs are coming from the left controlled music industry? I am sure the “anti-war” gang is comparing themselves and the accomplishments of the 1960’s protests and what they accomplished. The comparison is just not there, at least with the Music Industry as a measuring stick.
With the exception of some lefty rhetoric from the musicians themselves the anti-war message is by and large ignored by the music industry. In the 1960’s the anti-war message sold albums. Today, a few terse words thrown at the Bush Administration and some “Stop Global Warming” posturing from the musicians is all the Left and the “anti-war” protestors can manage. “Anti-war” does not sell to the teens and kids of today.
How big are the “anti-war” protests on college campuses this decade? I work on a large university campus and even with careful planning, heavy advertising, a complicit media to spread the word, there has never been more than a few hundred people in attendance of an “anti-war” rally.
No one even stops to observe the spectacle the way they did 40 years ago when war protests would shut down many college campuses for days on end. I watch one protest where a collection of “students” marched through a classroom building banging pots and pans, chanting their slogans, and then left. Zero classes were cancelled nor even disturbed except momentarily. With college campuses as a measuring stick there is no comparison to the protests of the 60s.
How many Democratic politicians are fronting the “anti-war” message? With the exception of “Meat Grinder” Murtha, everyone, even Nancy Pelosi, has been in reverse gear. The “anti-war” left has demonstrated they will cannibalize anyone they believe hasn’t drunk the kool-aid and sold out to their fringe message, i.e. Hillary Clinton. No one wants to be part of a hate filled group that publicly eats their own wounded.
By and large the Democratic Party treats the “anti-war” lefties with the same respect they treat their other core constituencies. A few months of the year the democrats will pander to the black voters, the female voters, and the poor voters. Whatever portion the Democrats can segment out of the populace they will exploit. That little splinter group of the pupulation will get some insincere posturing from the DNC and that is about it. As soon as whatever election is over all the attention and feel-good camaraderie from the Left disappears until the next election.
The Left is jealous of their own past. They look back and see when their rhetoric and posturing moved the entire world. Now they are lucky to get a few jokes thrown their way by Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien. The Left conquered Academia, Media, Politics, and Entertainment. But despite all their success in turning every major U.S. institution into a swamp of moral relativism, the Left and the Democratic Party have failed in turning the majority of Americans into helpless, angst ridden socialists desperately crying out for the nanny-state to spoon-feed them from cradle to grave
The Left has it all but still can not destroy what all their machinations were set out to originally do; break the American Spirit. Our Spirit has taken some big hits over the decades and it might still crack and fall and spell the end of the Greatest Nation that ever existed on God’s green Earth. But until then, expect the Democratic Party and the Leftist Socialists in charge to continue their hate fill vitriol aimed towards patriotic, God fearing Americans. Because even though they have won every battle they continue to lose the war.
