Truth isn’t defined by the consensus of the majority. Nor is it the aggregation and evaluation of observed and measured phenomena over a given period of time.
Truth is the given “reality” of the phenomena, situation, or object. I.E. Truth is what is REAL independent and beyond what our several senses can detect or interpret. Plato’s ideal chair concept is perhaps closest to touching the actual discussion from this point of view.
The only problem is that we, as humans, are only equipped, on the natural plane of existence, with the ability to evaluate reality based upon observed and measured phenomena over a given period of time.
But as Christians, we realize there is a reality above our own mundane plane of existence and through careful study, research, and first hand accounts, recognize that our existence is owed not to purely naturalistic (atheistic) processes, but that a Creator/God did and still does fortify and subsist the entire universe.
Given that He (God) is the originator and sustainer of all observable and invisible creation, it is by that definition we place the Word of God subservient to none and hold it as the ultimate expression of Truth/Reality in the universe. All Truth (capital “T”) that can be known assuredly has only one fount from which to spring forth, and that fount is the pages of Scripture and the Word of God Himself.
That groundwork, laid by the foundation of Scripture, is the jumping off point for all matter of scientific, social, and political endeavors that Man can care to engage in. When faced with data or problems that transcend our ability to evaluate we first head to Scripture to seek the base Truths involved and it is from this root that Man has lifted himself up from the shepherds and hunters of the days of yore and become the true masters of the planet, just as we were commanded to become from the earliest pages of Holy Writ.
It is not a recent nor original innovation by Man to seek to place God and His Holy Word subservient to the wiles and precociousness of Men. The Original Sin committed by Mankind was to seek to place himself on par with God, to reserve for ourselves the privilege to determine Right and Wrong, Truth and Lie.
We want to elevate our opinion to the level of Truth and relegate the actual Truth to musty history books and stories told to shepherds and hunters. Truth IS beyond our capacity to find it, that is why God reveals all Truth in Scripture to us, and for us, through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
With out Christ and the Holy Spirit Mankind is simply unable to know what Truth or Reality actually are. It is that simple.
