You know, one of those photoshop edits that has the subject appearing to “pop out” of the photograph. It is easier than I thought and you don’t even need Photoshop to do it. You can use Windows Paint or The Gimp or whatever.
It is a 4 step process and you can even eliminate 2 of the steps (Step 1 is find a picture to edit ;))
Step 1 is Choose a picture to edit. One that is not too cluttered is good, and one with the background slightly out of focus is ideal.
Step 2 is draw a white box around the subject that creates your “photograph” border like in the old time photos that you would get back from FotoHut. You can be fancy and add a black edge to the thick white box to further enhance the effect but you don’t need to.
Also, make sure that you don’t extend the border OVER your subject. The key to the illusion is that the photograph boundaries are going behind the subject.
Step 3 is to erase everything that is on the outside of the white border except your subject.
Step 4 is optional depending on the effect you want, but it is to add little details to bring the pop up to life. Notice the subject’s left shoulder, it is overlapping the border. A little bit of erasing makes the effect all the more convincing.

And the final picture?

Neat and easy, huh?
